Apakah yang dimaksud dengan Intellectual Capital?

Untuk lebih jelasnya, saya akan gambarkan dengan contoh ilustrasi berikut ini. Andi adalah seorang karyawan berusia tiga puluh lima tahun yang memiliki latar belakang pendidikan terakhir yaitu S2 magister manajemen dari salah satu universitas negeri ternama dan berpengalaman selama hampir sepuluh tahun di Industri Jasa Keuangan. Andi baru saja dipekerjakan oleh sebuah perusahaan property, bertanggungjawab dalam mengelola keuangan perusahaan dan diberikan jabatan sebagai manager. Perusahaan sejak akhir tahun lalu memang sudah berencana mencari seorang manajer keuangan karena salah seorang manajer sebelumnya, mengundurkan diri karena diterima bekerja di salah satu perusahaan asset management terbesar di Tanah Air.

Manajemen di perusahaan baru ini berharap, dengan bergabungnya Andi, perusahaan akan dapat mempertahankan kinerja perusahaan, khususnya dalam bidang investasi dan keuangan. Bahkan jika memungkinkan melampaui kinerja manajer sebelumnya. Nah, dalam kasus ini, perusahaan pada dasarnya telah melakukan akuisisi atas apa yang namanya Human Capital. Harapan perusahaan adalah, apa yang ada di isi kepala Andi, termasuk ketrampilan, keahlian, wawasan, kepemimpinan dan lain-lain, akan menjadi modal perusahaan untuk dapat berkembang lebih pesat.
 
Di dalam lingkungan perusahaan tempat Andi bekerja memiliki lingkungan yang berbeda dengan perusahaan tempat kerja sebelumnya, dimana di perusahaan sebelumnya lebih menekankan norma hirarkis / senioritas dan bersifat formal. Berbeda dengan perusahaan ini yang bersifat lebih casual, dapat lebih leluasa dalam berekspresi dan berpendapat. Di perusahaan ini, Andi berkomitmen untuk dapat memberikan yang terbaik untuk perusahaan. Alasan lain yang membuat Andi merasa nyaman adalah karena
jenjang karir Andi di sini cukup bagus dan terukur sesuai kinerja.

Seberjalannya waktu, Andi mendapatkan dukungan penuh dari lingkungan perusahaan dalam mengembangkan dirinya, dari kemudahan akses informasi yang diberikan, memiliki teman-teman sejawat serta atasan yang kapan saja dapat diajak berdiskusi. Apa yang Andi dapatkan seperti yang digambarkan di atas adalah sesuatu yang dinamakan social capital atau Relational Capital.

Kemudian perusahaan bertransformasi dalam proses bisnis dimana budaya digital sudah mulai diterapkan di perusahaan. Aset pengetahuan perusahaan termasuk data dan informasi yang dibutuhkan dalam kegiatan investasi dan keuangan perusahaan tersimpan rapi di dalam database. Bukan hanya informasi terkait bisnis, tetapi informasi mengenai peraturan perusahaan hingga standard operation procedure (SOP) juga tersedia dengan sistematis. Penyimpanan dan pengolahan data yang terkait pengetahuan inilah yang dikategorikan sebagai salah satu contoh dari organisational capital atau Structural Capital.

Ketiga capital di atas (human, social dan organizational) adalah bagian dari Intellectual Capital. Knowledge management berperan penting dalam terciptanya Intellectual Capital, yang merupakan aset dan sumber daya tidak berwujud dari sebuah organisasi atau perusahaan. Kreativitas, inovasi, pengetahuan dan jaringan kolaborasi serta hubungan antar organisasi dapat tumbuh berkembang sangat pesat untuk mendukung kemajuan perusahaan.
